Transforming State Parks into Camping Destinations

Problem

Since 2015, the state of Ohio has been working on an initiative to make Ohio’s state parks a choice vacation destination by modernizing facilities and enhancing the visitor experience. This includes upgrading campgrounds, marinas, visitors’ centers, restroom facilities and including camp stores and swimming pools at some parks.

Solution

Under the Design-Build model, CTI and Contractor TAM Construction have upgraded camping facilities across 25 state parks throughout Ohio to provide “full-service campsites” which include ADA accessibility, 50-amp electrical service, potable water, and sanitary sewer hook-ups. These projects often involve upgrades to the water distribution and sanitary collection systems including new pump stations, updated treatment facilities, RV dump stations, and new water and sewer lines. Where possible, CTI will help ODNR negotiate connecting the state parks to nearby municipal systems for providing drinking water or collecting wastewater to eliminate the need for treatment systems on-site.
